There are 15 of us left. This hat went out this morning to lessen the number by one. I’ve seen some investigating into the status of the hat intended to take me out, so I’m sure my days are numbered, but I’d never have believed I’d survive this long.
One of my readers asked about what [...]

Easter Stoles
The trick with these stoles is that there is no trick at all. If you’ve got a lace pattern you like, or a stich dictionary, you can do this sort of thing with one eye shut.
I picked a lace pattern from my stitch dictionary, then figured how many repeats I’d need to make the shawl [...]

The best laid plans…
The best laid plans fall to pieces when fabric decides to be persnickety. I cut out underdresses today for the girls’ Easter attire. That was fine and dandy. Then I tackled cutting out the filmy gauzy stuff for the over dresses. Oy. It was like working with wet tissue paper. It stretched and slipped and [...]

Google is a funny thing
There’s not a lot to report with the knitting. I’m still working on about 3 pairs of socks, and just finished the first of the Tuscan Tomato pair. The ratio is 2 Christmas presents to 1 personal pair, so I think that keeps me on the “Nice” list for December. The red sweater is progressing [...]

Gauge is your friend
Changing from size 2 to size 0 needles changed the gauge enough to get striping instead of pooling. Good. Thing. (But good gravy, I never thought I’d be convinced to knit anything on size 0 needles…yowza.)
Gauge can also be a harsh mistress, as evidenced above. The bottom hat is FIRE FOUR! for Hat Attack that [...]

Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt…
…or a pool in Kansas. Color pool, that is. Behold the grodiness:
The front and back sides of one sock. Meh. I don’t know what it is about knitting that makes me want to deny Facts when they are staring me in the face. The pooling was icky on the cuff. I thought I’d give it a chance to work [...]

He totally gets it
My 12 year old son, Jonathan, was looking at Ellie’s new tube knitting paraphenalia.
J: Is that acrylic yarn?
Me: No, it’s wool. I’ll go downstairs and dig up some acrylic for her later.
J: For her stash?
Me: You think Ellie needs a stash? [remember, the girl is 4.]
J: Well, you can’t be a real knitter without a [...]

Be still my heart
The girls and I made a trip to Hobby Lobby today. Katie was wanting to get another cross stitch kit, and I needed a stitch holder. Ellie asked to come, and so I brought her along. Then I started feeling sorry for the girl…she’s the only female in the house without fiber skills. I know [...]

There’s got to be a name…
There’s got to be a name for the feeling/sensation/cold sweat that knitters experience when they start fixating on the possibility that they may not, in fact, have enough yarn to finish a project. I am plugging away on this sweater, and I really do love it. I’m very curious as to how it’s going to [...]

Working on a first
A sweater for me. I saw this pattern in an Interweave Knits, and luuuurve it. I’ve never knit a sweater for myself before, so this is a Grand Experiment in which I am exploring:
1. Whether or not I really can knit and trust a gauge swatch.
2. Whether or not I can measure my own self and [...]
