Ending the year on a good note

Last night I finished Ellie’s hat made from Yarn #2.  I used needles that were way too small, so the hat is very dense.  I would bet money that they might even be waterproof.  I think she likes it.

This morning I also finished up the first pair of socks I’ve knit for myself.  I am [...]

The Learning Curve

It’s fiber central around here.  Our friends are visiting, and their 3 girls are working on knitting projects.  The mom started her third work in progress.  Every room has needles and yarn hanging about.  It’s truly lovely.

She’s so cute.
The spinning wheel has been getting a workout.  I’m learning.  I’m also burning a nice blister on [...]

The Very First

It’s uneven, it’s overspun, but I’m not too fussed…it’s my first effort and I MADE YARN!!! I feel like Tom Hanks’ character in Cast Away, only he made fire…destructive, smelly, messy fire.  This is YARN!
Never mind the whooping you might be hearing…it’s just me and my yarn.

365 Knitting Days ‘Til Christmas!

Oh, that cracks me up. But seriously…have you started a list yet?
We had a wonderful day yesterday, and it ended with my very kind and patient husband assembling my present:

It was no mean feat…this baby came in a box no more than 4 inches thick. Lotsa parts! I’m waiting to get to know her a [...]

These are a few of my favorite things

MYA has two FO’s to report.  Her Very First Hat is done, made from yarn she bought during the Yarn Shop Hop.  We’re still working on the pom pom, as the first was anemic, but it is wearable!  She also decided, yesterday morning, that her miniscule stuffed dog needed a purple scarf.  She whipped one [...]

I’m a Big, Fat Liar

I thought I was done.  But then I thought of something else.  It might not get done by Christmas, and that’s okay, but then again, it just might…and it’d be really cool if it did.  We’ll see.  I started it last night.  No pictures, of course.  Yet. I wonder if this is bad enough to [...]

My Christmas Knitting is Done

Yup.  It’s done.  Really.  I had thoughts about trying to whip up a little something for each of the kidlets before Dec 25th, but Sean put the kabosh on that idea and said enough is enough.  So I’m done.  Unfortunately, I can’t post pictures of the last projects because the recipients might see.  I wonder [...]

It’s December 16th???

I am thinking of starting a petition.  I’m suggesting that the perceived flow-of-time factors of February and December be swapped. December goes by far too quickly. The under-14 contingent might form a strong opposition, but I say we deny them suffrage. Anyone with me?
Last time I popped on here I had high hopes and expectations [...]

Make it or break it Saturday

Today is a big one…today determines whether or not I will have to retrench in regards to the Christmas knitting.  (Jane Austen fans can enjoy replaying in their minds the “retrench” scene from Amanda Root’s version of Persuasion:  “RETRENCH!?  SURELY NOT!”)
I am armed with my DVD library (and I’ll have to use the laptop for [...]

Finishing is hard work

She’s on the home stretch.  MYA would tell you she’s been working on this scarf for decades.  (Yes, I know she’s 8…what’s your point?)

Look at those tendons a’ snappin’ as she binds off.  She’s doing it right, too, by binding off in pattern.  I’m so proud.

Ta-daaaaa!!!!

The lucky recipient. He never nagged her about when the [...]
