Calorimetry

Well, that was fun.
I got to practice knitting rule #14: When necessary, wing it.  I flagrantly disobeyed knitting rule #3 (Knit a gauge swatch, dingbat), and realized that if I continued in pattern, this headband was going to become a hood.  So, this one isn’t symmetrical along the length, but I put the curve on [...]

MYA’s FO & a cardigan update

She’s still looking peaked, but here’s the lastest from My Young Apprentice.  She’s all about casting off.

Actually, she’s all about casting on, too, thanks to her friend Kristen, who taught her this mad skill while Katie was staying with them last week.  MYA is itching to practice her new skill by casting on another project, [...]

Productive Illness

My young’uns are ill.  It’s been several days of regular emptying of stomach contents…gotta love it. My Young Apprentice, however, is demonstrating that it’s hard to be too sick to knit.

I’ve been keeping her company and playing with the scarf yarn

But now it’s time for college football and later, the World Series, so the cardigan [...]

Yarn shop fun

This is my fellow sock knitter in front of the local yarn shop, Kris (or Chris?  How did I manage to get on a first name basis with someone and have no idea how to spell her name?).  Kris and I managed to meet here both times I visited the shop and had lovely chats.  [...]

Dodging the frog

The sock has been rescued.  One of the lace holes is going to be a touch larger than it should be, but that’s acceptable.  I’m not entering these in the State Fair or anything…I just want full initiation into the Lace Sock Club. (Is there such a club?  Shouldn’t there be?)
I still like this pattern, [...]

What is she DOING?

You’d have thought I’d stripped down and run through the terminal naked…

Nope.  Just knitting in public.  Yesterday I exercised my TSA-given right to carry on my knitting needles into a secure region of the airport (5″ dpn AND 10″ single points, people!  Tell me MacGyver couldn’t do something with those!).
My first Hedera sock was coming along [...]

Welcome, little friends…

I made a wonderful discovery of a brand new yarn shop in my town…close to where I live, even! Whoopie!!! It’s beautiful, the yarns look amazing, and I can’t wait to spend more time (and maybe something else) there.  The reason for my visit was that I was in need of some hardware for a [...]

FO and Rescued O

Andy’s socks are done.  Whew.  Mark that languishing project OFF the list!
I can also report a “Rescued Object” this morning.  Yesterday, as we sorted through coats, hats and mittens, we discovered that my first set of hand knit mittens was no longer a pair.  One is missing.  There were tears, and believe it or not, [...]

The Dishcloth

The cotton dishcloth is my standard go-to, portable project.  If we’re headed out the door, it’s almost automatic…grab the size 9s and some cotton along with the purse on the way out the door.  Or, more often than not, just grab the purse because the dishcloth in progress is already stuffed in there.  No wonder [...]

The internet is a dangerous, dangerous thing.

I just got my invitation to be a beta tester for Ravelry.  It is a horribly wonderful site for knitters and crocheters to share what they are working on, what’s in their stash, books they like, patterns they love, journals, groups…LOTS of time could be lost spent there.  It gives each member a “notebook” to keep track [...]
